Hajdú is a Hungarian cheese brand with roots going back to the years after the Second World War.
In 1957, Hajdú County Dairy Factory was founded in eastern Hungary. The factory was created to produce high-quality dairy products for the Hungarian market. With local milk and traditional methods, Hajdú quickly became known for cheeses with a rich flavour and consistent quality.
During the 1960s and 1970s, production grew and Hajdú became one of Hungary’s important cheese producers. Kashkaval in particular became one of the brand’s best-known products — a semi-hard cheese that later became very popular in Middle Eastern markets.
As early as the 1970s and 1980s, Hajdú Kashkaval was exported abroad, where it built a strong reputation for its distinctive taste and reliable quality. In Hungary, Hajdú also became part of everyday life for many families, including with Trappist cheese and other classic dairy products.
After the political and economic changes of 1989, the Hungarian dairy industry faced new market conditions and foreign competition. The Hajdú factory continued production and was gradually modernised.
In the early 2000s, Kőröstej Group acquired the Hajdú cheese factory, marking a new phase of investment in modern technology and greater production capacity.
Since then, Hajdú has continued to develop new cheese types without losing connection to the flavours customers knew the brand for.
Today, Hajdú products are sold across Europe and the Middle East. The brand is recognised as one of Hungary’s well-known cheese names and still rests on the same combination of tradition, quality and modern production.
